Most of you already know about my love for hands. I’m not sure how it began, but it has never left me. It’s a detail I often notice in the world around me—like an ending that tells the story of who we are.
On that note, I’d like to quote Auguste Rodin, one of my favorite artists, who sculpted over a thousand hands. In Rodin’s work, hands are expressive and symbolic; they embody gesture. Separated from the body, they become studies, “abattis” cast in series, and sometimes take on monumental significance. He summed it up: “The hand reveals the person.” Humanity at the fingertips.
Below, you’ll find two studies of hands using different techniques—from colored markers with brush to soft-tip and fine-tip pens.
They also reflect my love for experimenting and starting over. Sometimes, it’s because the tool doesn’t suit me, or the expression it creates, or how I used it. Other times, it’s to improve the drawing. Or simply the pure joy of beginning again. Again Hand again.
